Next Friday September 1st , the annual Premier Yearling sales will be held at the BBAG complex in Iffezheim. The sale which has become a truly international event over the last couple of years thanks to horses like Danedream or Torquator Tasso, has found its spot between the Arqana Yearling sales and the Tattersalls October Yearling sales to its advantage. While the big bullets will always be shot at Arqana and Tattersalls Book 1 and 2, the German Sale has become a sure sale for real value for money. One only has to look at this years 2023 racing results to see a Fantastic Moon (Sea the Moon) winner of the German Derby sold for €49.000 from Stauffenberg Bloodstock to Liberty Racing 2021, Mr. Hollywood, 2nd Derby €15.000 from Gestüt Ammerland to Wanja Oberhof/Sebastian Weiss or Muskoka (Sea the Moon), the German Oaks winner for €80.000 from Gestüt Ohlerweilerhof to Stall Torjäger, but also in the International jumping sphere Gaelic Warrior (Maxios) won the Irish Mirror Novics Hurdle Group I, had also gone through this sales ring for €9.000 from Gestüt Fährhof to Pierre Boulard Bloodstock. This year again see´s a very strong catalogue with all the big Studs represented: Gestüt Fährhof (14), Gestüt Auenquelle (9), Gestüt Brümmerhof (10), Gestüt Etzean (25), Gestüt Görlsdorf (10), Gestüt Karlshof (12) an Gestüt Park Wiedingen (4)

All the top stallions like Frankel, Sea the Stars, Teofilo, No Nay Never, Mastercraftsman or the bright young sires like Zarak, Wootton Bassett and Saxon Warrior have offspring on show as has the German top sires Adlerflug and Soldier Hollow. First season sires with representatives include Ghaiyyath, Golden Horde, Fighting Irish, Hello Youmzain, Kameko, Pinatubo, Persian King, Sottsass, Waldpfad, Wooded and Yafta and it will be interesting to see how they are welcomed in Germany.

The sale itself kicks of at 10 am and and some of the early lots of interest include Lot Nr. 36 a full sister to the 5-time winning including at Group II level Amazing Grace, who was also twice Group I placed. The Protectionist daughter will be sent up under the Roland Rauscher banner.Next in the ring, Lot Nr. 37 is a Best Solution filly, a half-sister to Assistent, who was champion 3-year-old in Italy in 2022, but bettered that in 2023 to become a top Grand Prix horse with wins in the Großer Hansa Preis Group II and the Carl Jasper Preis Group II. Lot Nr. 54 from Gestüt Fährhof is a Gleneagles half-brother to the Group I winning filly La Petit Coco from the family of Laveron and Lavirco. Lot Nr. 61 is a Counterattack colt consigned by Gestüt Karlshof who is a half-brother to this stud’s good filly Mylady a Group III winner and placed in both the German guineas and oaks. Lot Nr. 63, a brown colt by first season sire Pinatubo is sent up from Gestüt Brümmerhof. Out of the Dubai Destination mare Nevada this colt is a half-brother to German 1000 Guineas winner Novemba (Gleneagles) and stakes placed Niagaro (Adlerflug).

Lot Nr. 75 should turn some heads. This brown filly by Guiliani is a full sister to Tünnes German Champion 3-year-old colt in 2022 and winner of the Group I Großer Preis von Bayern and she is also of course the half-sister to European Champion and Prix de l´Arc winner Torquator Tasso. She is already named Tyliani Hilleshage and is another from the Roland Rauscher consignment. Skipping to Lot Nr. 156 from Stauffenberg Bloodstock. This Sea the Stars filly is a half-sister to the 2020 Champion 2-year-old in Germany Best of Lips (The Gurkha). Lot Nr. 165 yet another filly from Gestüt Fährhof. Again by first season Sire Pinatubo, she is out of the speighttown mare Hargesa making this chestnut a half-sister to this years German 1000 Guineas winner Habana (Kingsman). The very next Lot 166 is from Gestüt Karlshof. This Isfahan brown filly is a full sister to the 2-year-old winning Isfahani who later ran second in the German Oaks Group I.

Lot Nr. 174 comes in the ring with the name Mia Sunshine from the Gestüt Etzean draft.This February born filly by Sea the Moon out of the good race mare Monami is a 3 parts sister to German Oaks winner Miss Yoda. Lot 188 is sent up from French stud Haras du Buff. This Dabirsim filly is a full sister to the stakes winning Frohsim but also a half-sister to Champion 2022 3-year-old filly Toskana Belle (Shamalgen) who won the German Oaks and nearly €450.000 in price money. Lot Nr. 189 is the only Frankel in the Catalogue. Another from Roland Rauscher this April born colt comes from the Family of Mondialist Impressionate and Intello to name but a few. All in All it’s a good strong catalogue of 235 Lots and there will definitely be bargains to be had here, biggest problem is finding the right one. Big money doesn´t always buy the best ask Fantastic Moon!
