The ten race programme in Hannover last Sunday produced some interesting results. A programme that included a Group 3 fillies race, two listed races for for the youngsters and a sales race was always going to throw up some unusual outcomes, but it came none more so than in the main event itself. Twelve fillies went to post for the Group 3 Arqana Herbst Stuten Preis with a hot favorite in the 6/4 shot the three year old Diamond Crown from Andreas Suboric's stable. The favorite had every chance but dropped away in the straight to finish sixth. The race found an easy winner though in the form of 40/1 outsider Ultima (Amaron) who was absolutely cantering turning into the straight and streched away from the field to win by an easy 3 3/4 lenghts for Danish trainer Veronika Jandova and jockey Carlos Lopez. Ultima formerly trained here in Germany by Roland Dzubasz for Gestut Auenquelle now runs in the colours of LT Racing Denmark. The 32.000 Euro-BBAG buy was followed home by Gestüt Park Wiedingen's Soldier Hollow daughter Egina with third spot going to the French raider Veil of Shadows (Frankel).

In the first of the Listed races, a fillies race over 1400m (7F) it was again an outsider and a foreign horse that collected the prize. Having made her way from Poland for the event Merveilleux Lapin (Mohaather) showed the German two year olds a clean pair of heels winning by 1/2 lenght from Gestut Rottgens Damara (Reliable Man) with Quebec (Sea the Moon) 3½ lenghts away in third. The 11/10 favorite Santara was well beaten in fourth. The Polish winner ran in the colours of Patryk Gorczyca, is trained by Maciej Jodlowski and was ridden by German based local jockey Wladimir Panov.

The winner is interesting to note as she has won three of her four starts to date and was only beaten but decisivly by Westminster Race Horses Territories filly Lady Ilze in Warsaw and it was mentioned that that filly could be heading to Andreas Wohler's stables next year. The two year old listed race over 2000m (1m2f) had no such upsets with the two favorites fighting out the finish. Liberty Racings New England (Brametot) from Peter Schiergens stable got the better of Stall Bergholz Delgardo (Best Solution) with Walkover (Lord of England) third fourtheen lenghts behind the first two. The Bauyrzhan Murzabayev ridden winner earned quotes of 14/1 and stands as second favorite for next years German Derby behind his Gleneagles stable companion Lifetimes.

The sales race with 52.000 Euro added went to the Amaron gelding and favorite Va Bene from Roland Dzubasz Berlin stables again with Murzabayev in the saddle, as they got the better of Munich trained Kaviar (Areion) with Nightdance Giulia (Guiliani) back in third.

Elsewhere last weekend there was a nice success for the Marcel Weiss trained five year old Flamingo Fantasy son Petit Marin. This one had come back to form under Sean Byrne on his penultimate start when running a good second behind Quest the Moon in Berlin and made no mistake this time in the Group 2 Premio Roma in Rome beating the Joseph O Brien Irish trained Trustyourinstincts (Churchill) under jockey Dario di Tocco. The Andreas Wohler trained Westminster Moon (Sea the Moon) ran another game race to take third under stable jockey. Eduardo Pedroza.

Looking on to this coming weekend: Cologne then takes over Sunday with the Group 3, Silbernes Pferd over the staying trip of 3000m (1m 7F) the highlight. Again we will see some old reliables like Partnun, Tres Rock Women reunited with Michael Cadeddu, having run di,sappointing last time Nastaria, who's last run was in the Irish St Leger at the Curragh as was Waldadler's. These staying races at this time of year will be won by the gamest horse on the day.
